The Old Manor at Twyning is just a few miles from the historic riverside town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. The Old Manor itself dates back many hundred of years and still retains original features such as bread ovens, large fireplace and original beams and timbers. During the centuries the house has been extended and changed many times and at one point a large queen anne style house stood in the grounds but fell into disrepair and there is no trace of the house - just a photo and the listed garden wall with its stone pineapples.
The Old Manor is now run as a smallholding with a small flock of local Ryeland sheep and a variety of chickens. The old apple and perry pear orchard remains at the back of The Old Manor and still provides the apples used in our homemade chutneys.
The gardens are sheltered by a inner and outer walls and their protection allows us to grow kiwi fruits, figs, peaches and nectarines. The kitchen garden also provides a good supply of fruit and vegetables. The strawberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, gooseberries and rhubarb are all used in our homemade jams and jellies which are included in the cottage welcome packs.
Nick's apiary is also located in the orchard and the bees provide great tasting honey, which is normally included in our holiday cottage welcome packs.
Picnic tables are provided in the orchard for guests to use, providing a great opportunity to see some of the local wildlife as well as the sheep and chickens.
