Twyning, Tewkesbury
Twyning is a small Gloucestershire village 3 miles (5km) from Tewkesbury. Its on the western edge of the Cotswolds and conveniently close to the borders with Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The village has a long history dating back to before medieval times and old black and white wooden frame buildings together with traditional red brick houses like the Old Manor still survive. Five minutes stroll from Old Manor Holiday Cottages is Twyning village green with The Village Inn at the far end and 2 minutes further on is The Fleet At Twyning a riverside pub on the banks of the River Avon. The Village Inn has a cosy local pub atmosphere and The Fleet Inn by the river is a traditional riverside pub- both serve food.
There are plenty of public footpaths around the village with great views of the Malverns, Cotswolds and Bredon Hill. A picturesque riverside walk along the banks of the River Avon runs from the Fleet at Twyning right into the centre of Tewkesbury. It takes about an hour and is a gentle stroll along the river bank with passing holiday cruisers, narrow boats and sailing boats from Tewkesbury Marina. On the opposite side of the village there's access to the long distance footpath - The Severn Way, which also runs through Tewkesbury. The area has a wealth of wildlife and is great for bird watching. A health spa, fishing lake, horse riding and 18 hole golf course are all within walking distance of the holiday cottages.
Twyning is on a higher area of land between the River Avon to the East and the River Severn to the west. When the River Avon floods it covers the lower lying water meadows but does not reach the main village. At times of high water levels there is normally no difficulty getting in or out the village and onto the nearby main roads and motorways.
The M5 and M50 motorways are close enough to provide fantastic access for touring the local area but they are also far enough away not to disturb the peace and quite of the cottage gardens. Enjoying a central position in the heart of England, the holiday cottages are an ideal base for touring the area and visiting many other places of interest.
Both holiday cottages are available for self catering holidays, short breaks and weekend breaks all with flexible start dates where available. Check price & availability
